Important Information

  • We regret that LPG (or equivalent flammable gas) vehicles cannot be transported by LeShuttle even if it is being used as a secondary fuel source. However other dual powered vehicles can be accepted e.g. petrol/electric. Check the acceptability of your vehicle.

  • Transport of gas containers to power domestic services for caravans, campervans, vehicles fitted out as a campervan are restricted. Check gas transport conditions.

Taking your car to France - FAQs

  • If you are travelling on LeShuttle, which uses the Channel Tunnel, you stay in your car during the 35 minute journey from Folkestone to Calais. Once your car is loaded onto the deck of its shuttle and your crossing starts, you can leave your car to stretch your legs or use the on board toilets.   

     
  • No, the Eurostar does not offer a service for taking your car to France. Eurostar only runs passenger trains, so if you want to travel through the Channel Tunnel in your car, you should make a booking with LeShuttle.

  • Yes, your UK driving licence will be recognised in France. Make sure you carry it with you at all times when you are driving in France and other countries in the EU. The paper counterpart, if you have one, is no longer required. Find out what else you need to drive in France.

     
  • No, it is not possible to drive a car in the Channel Tunnel. If you want to make a Channel Tunnel crossing by car, you should travel with LeShuttle, which crosses the channel from Folkestone to Calais in just 35 minutes.
